2016 Initiatives

This year Rocky Mount Baptist Church will expand its efforts in our Operation Christmas Child Ministry to include monthly collections and packing parties. While you may wish to continue packing shoeboxes on your own, we hope these initiatives will generate more enthusiasm and make the process less strenuous for those who prefer not to shop.

Monthly Collections

Each month between March and September emphasis will be placed on a designated category of shoebox items. For example, March’s collection will be wearable items. On the first Sunday of each month you will receive a list of suggested items to donate. Also, the first Sunday of each month might be a good time to make any monetary donations you feel led to give. You can place your donations in either your offering envelope or pew envelope, but please designate the money by the initials OCC. Most of this money will be used to purchase items for boys and girls, ages 2-4.

On the 2^nd, 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th Sundays (when there is a 5^th one), please bring your donated items and place them in the boxes provided for that purpose. Boxes will be set up in the alcove under the stairs that lead to the Sunday School classrooms. All items that you purchase will be for boys and girls, ages 5-9 and 10-14. At the end of each month volunteers will sort the items and store them until the appropriate packing party occurs.

• August – School Supplies

• September – Filler Items (additional items needed for packing parties)

Packing Parties

Four packing parties will be held between July and October to pack the previously donated items into the shoeboxes for children of a certain gender and age range.

• Packing Party 1: July: Teens will pack shoeboxes for boys and girls ages 2-4 during VBS

• Packing Party 2: September 18^th: Girls 5-9

• Packing Party 3: October 2^nd: Boys 5-9

• Packing Party 4: October 16^th: Boys and Girls 10-14

How can I help?

• Pray for shoebox recipients to receive the greatest gift of all-Salvation in Christ!

• Support our efforts financially

• Donate designated items each month for ages 5-9 and 10-14

• Volunteer to help sort items monthly or help pack shoeboxes in September and October
